July 6-14, Glasgow, Edinburgh

  • I think, for me, the highlight of the Edinburgh was the little tobacco shop near the castle I bought my pipe from. There’s a nice kid working there who helped me pick out something Scottish, and a few nice tobacco blends.
  • The rest of the time in Glasgow was really nice and laid back. Almost like normal living for a bit. I could see myself living in Glasgow.
  • I spent one evening with a few theologians and a pastor drinking whiskey. One guy had finished everything for a PhD, including his dissertation. His committee asked for some changes to his dissertation that he did not want to make… so he walked away from the degree. That’s a challenge for someone like me to grasp. It just doesn’t fit with my default definitions of success and value. However- in the narrative perspective of things… I see this as potentially part of an beautiful and epic story. That… is a pretty hard thing to go through…
