- I lived in an old camper-trailer that was hoisted about 20 feet into some trees in the Scottish highlands. It was a set piece in an art film called “Two Years at Sea.” It actually won some awards… It’s a pretty surreal and incredible place to be. The only actor in this film also happens to be the owner of this remote chunk of land down a restricted logging road. Unfortunately, I never met the guy…
- I blew a tire on the day of the Brexit vote. I happened to pull into polling place to change out the spare. That was a pretty strange experience..
- I drank a lot of scotch, and visited 8 different distilleries: Glenlivet; Glenfiddich; Balvenie; Glen Grant; Glen Moray; Aberlour; Strathisla; and Cardhu,) The history, culture, and craft of whisky in Scotland is pretty special. There’s so much tradition to it… it’s an integral part of the story of the people and the land there. I think one of the most amazing aspects to it, is the relatively small number of people that are actually involved in the production of this stuff that is consumed in mass quantities globally. Also… just the simplicity and humility of the communities that produce this stuff… you can just kind of wander through and chat with these folks, check out the distilleries. The land here is beautiful also… a particularly memorable spot is the gardens at the Glen Grant distillery. I was lucky and no one else was in the garden when I went, so I had the whole place to myself. Reminded me of New Zealand and LOTR scenery…
