I left the campsite early to visit the Moeraki Boulders. They’re pretty weird.
After that I drove to Christchurch. The first stop was Orana Wildlife Park. Yvonne had told me about how you can do this deal where you climb into a cage in the back of a truck, and then they drive the truck into a lion enclosure and give the lions a snack. So that sounded awesome- and it was pretty awesome. Cats are pretty much cats, regardless of size. It really surprised me how similar to house cats they are. Cute- also huge and deadly. It’s a great park- I did the lion thing, hand fed some giraffes, saw a baby white rhino, a cheetah, a huge silverback gorilla, amongst other things. The staff are also just really passionate and engaging, which was cool. I got into another huge conversation about environmental ethics and global scarcity- it’s really illuminating to hear from people who are the experts and work with critically endangered species.
After the zoo I drove to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens to hang out. It’s pretty nice there too…
I left before it got too dark so I could pack and clean out the van, so I wouldn’t get slapped with a cleaning fee.
I left the campsite and drove to Moeraki Boulders.
