I flew to New Delhi, from Athens, with a stopover in Dubai.
Depart Athens 3:25 pm, arrive Dubai 10:05 pm.
Depart Dubai 4:30 am, arrive New Delhi 9:10 am.
The plan was to meet up with my friend Jon at the airport, and head to the hotel that he arranged for us. Unfortunately, his flight was delayed. Also, I didn’t know the details of the hotel he arranged for us.
So I get into a cab, and end up in the middle of Old Delhi- between the Jama Masjid and the Red Fort basically.
In terms of contrast, I’m not sure there are greater extremes, going from wealth to poverty.
The featured image is one of the scenes that we both really liked- the Old Delhi school bus… One thing that left a particularly deep impression on me was the value placed on, and commitment to educating children. In the middle of Old Delhi, which is honestly just a complete shitshow, we saw hundreds of kids, walking to school, at like 7 AM, neatly dressed in clean uniforms, carrying backpacks. Many were being taken by their parents, who were clearly quite poor. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anything even remotely comparable in the US.
We covered a pretty incredibly amount of ground in one day- Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Red Fort, Lodi Gardens, Khan Market, India Gate and government buildings, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib.
